I've always had a sinking legs problem, along with a sinking everything else. I'm the guy that takes in as much air as possible, jumps in the salt-water pool, and walks along the bottom. Apparently I happened to be born with dense bones, or something. One thing I cannot do is to propel myself through the water by kicking. Coaches and instructors through the years have given up on me, especially after they watch me strap on a normal life vest and promptly sink, vest and all. I still love to swim, though, but with so much energy expended to stay near the surface, recreational swimming with other people is akward. Back to my problem; is there some video or demonstration that shows efficient kicking?
For Tri-Spy, the cutout idea is a good one and you should try it again, but you need to use someone who doesn't have such a distinctive stride. That would obviously be Sam Long even without the St. George background.
I'm the non-stop swimmer but i have no idea how to structure a training session otherwise 😭
I’ve done 5 days straight on couch to 5k. I’ve suffered terribly with my mental health and developed a binge eating disorder, a consequence being type 2 diabetes. The modern definition of swimming is "feeling safe and comfortable in the water, even in deep water, and having the ability to propel yourself forward confidently." Unfortunately, many swim lessons, like this one, still use outdated methods designed for children to teach adults. The biggest problem with this approach is that it fails to address the students' fears by not teaching them to trust themselves and feel safe in the water first. . A much better method involves teaching floating to the level that the student becomes competent and confident in the water. Gentle kicks help maintain streamline position. Only when floating well, and the student is ready, do you introduce strokes. Stroke movements should firstly be practiced outside the pool to get the feel of the action before then practiced walking in the water. Breathing is introduced after the student is comfortable with floating and stroking, and can be practiced at the side of the pool, then walking in the pool, and finally added to the floating and strokes. . SCL - Student Comfort Level, needs to be considered at every step. In this video series it is obvious the SCL is very low at each stage. The student lack confidence and showing signs of fear. The lesson should only move to the next stage when the SCL is high. . Flotation devices and fins, commonly used with children, can actually hinder adult learning. Because they feel they need them to swim, they don’t learn to trust themselves so the student doesn’t lose their fear of the water. I started swimming now at a later age. Other people are scared of open water swimming or long distance swimming. My Mom had a water phobia and made sure everyone had swimming lessons but her phobia and everyone else's phobia hold you back. Even with kayaking they had a fear of me going too far or what if you get stuck in a storm. But it's kind of stupid to know how to swim only well enough to tread water and not how to swim a mile or 2. You would die in that cruise liner crash in Italy because you have to swim 2 miles to shore. People are also scared of running more than a mile or biking more than a mile afraid to go to far and not be able to come back. Human are happy after your first steps as a baby and think. They film a 1 year old taking it's first steps and are already trying to give it the triathlon gold medal. People want to celebrate doing nothing. Being a mom is the hardest job in the world. being a triathlon coach is easy. I don't know how these parents handle all of that hard work.
